Viswanatha Satyanarayana (10 September 1895 – 18 October 1976), the Poet Laureate of Andhra Pradesh and winner of JnanPith Award, is undoubtedly one of the greatest scholar-poets of Telugu Land. He is referred to as the Kavi Samraat (Emperor of Poetry) of modern Telugu literature.

Viswanatha was born on September 10th 1895 at Nandamuru, Krishna District, in an affluent Vaidik Brahmin family. He had an elder sister and two younger brothers. His father was a philanthropist and a devotee of Lord Shiva. In 1902, he brought an idol of Shiva Linga from Benares and built a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Nandamuru. Thus, Lord Sri Visweswara became their family Deity.
