Koduru Varaprasad Reddy (born November 17, 1948) is an Indian entrepreneur and founder of Shantha Biotechnics Ltd. He is known for his great morals and integrity in business. He was born in Agricultural family in Papireddy Palem, Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh, India – only child to the parents Late Venkata Ramana Reddy and Mother Mrs. Shanthamma.Mr Varaprasad Reddy as the MD of Shantha Biotechnics has taken the company to great heights and in the process has also aided in the growth of the Indian biotech sector. Shantha Biotech has achieved pioneer status in developing and commercialising a recombinant DNA-based human healthcare product - the Hepatitis-B vaccine - in India and may see more achievements in the near future - major generics like Human Insulin and Streptokinase; Therapeutic Antibodies for lung carcinoma, melanoma and cardiovascular diseases; Diagnostic Kits, new vaccines against Hepatitis-C and Hepatitis-E; a new generation vaccine against Hepatitis-B and other innovative biopharmaceuticals.
