The above statement rightly suits the legendary actor turned politician Dr. Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (నందమూరి తారక రామా రావు)(28 May 1923–18 January 1996), more commonly known as NTR. He was the person who brought self-respect for the entire Telugu community highlighting the distinct cultural identity of Andhra Pradesh, distinguishing it from Madras State with which it was often associated. He was born in Nimmakuru, Krishna District. Besides being a successful actor, he founded the Telugu Desam Party and served two times as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in the 1960s, recognising his contribution to Telugu cinema. NTR is referred to by fans as "Nata Ratna" (Emperor of Acting) in Telugu.
