Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao (born December 4, 1922 - 1974) was a legendary singer and music composer of Telugu films. He has mesmerized the Telugu Audience for years with his mellifluous voice. He was the Telugu cinema's first playback singer for movies and is remembered even till today for his great contribution towards Telugu Music.

Ghantasala was born in a traditional Telugu Brahmin family in Choutapalli of Gudivada Taluk in Krishna District on December 4, 1922. His father Suryayaa was a local singer. He took formal music training from Patraayani Sitarama Saastri, also known as Saluru Chinna Guruvu Garu, and he joined music college in Vijayanagram before entering the Telugu film industry.
